Three people have been arrested after a video clip of a monkey attacking a monkey in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district went viral on social media, police said.
Inspector Dhirendra Singh Yadav, in-charge of Piparpur police station said that three youths named Sangam, Radhe and Suraj have been arrested.
He said the three youths were booked under section 147 of the Indian Penal Code for causing nuisance, under section 223 for trying to escape from police custody and under section 429 for killing or maiming an animal.
The police officer said the FIR was registered on the complaint of one Devendra Singh, who had tried to save the monkey, but was chased by three youths.
According to the police, the incident took place near a beer shop in Durgapur market under Piparpur police station area of Amethi district.
When three youths came out of the shop under the influence of alcohol, the monkey was apparently injured and was sitting on the roadside near the beer shop.
They started throwing stones at the monkey which could not move due to injuries. They kept on attacking the animal till it became immobile.
The police informed the forest department and disposed of the body.
There was also a possibility of FIRs being registered by forest department officials under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
