Thousands protest in Maharashtra’s Malegaon amid Karnataka hijab row, 4 booked for violating Sec 144

Four organizers of the Muslim organization Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind have been booked for violating Section 144 in Maharashtra’s Malegaon as thousands of people gathered here to protest against the restrictions on wearing hijab at educational institutes in Karnataka.

The protestors said that wearing hijab is their right and urged the Karnataka government to take the restrictions back. They have declared to follow ‘hijab day’ in Malegaon.

Police have served a notice to the local MLA as he also participated in the protest without a police permission. In fact, no permission was sought from the police to hold the protest.
