Research by LV = General Insurance found that 200 planning permissions were granted for 5,283 properties in local authority areas where more than 10 percent of homes are already at risk of flooding.
The report studied more than 16,000 planning applications between January and September, with the LV=GI warning that England is likely to see many more properties built in areas vulnerable to flooding.

Claims Director Martin Milliner said: ‘This highlights the respective amount of current and future development in areas of high flood risk.
‘We need a holistic approach to floods for the long term, with property developers, insurance companies and the government to tackle the issue of construction on floodplains.’
A government spokesman said: ‘Our policy is clear that floodplain development should be avoided if possible, and construction in these areas should be protected if necessary.
‘We expect local authorities to follow this guidance.
‘We are providing a record investment of over £5.2 billion for flood and coastal protection in England, to create about 2,000 new defense plans, to improve the security of over 336,000 properties.’
