Thousands of farmers gathered at a ‘mahapanchayat’ in Muzaffarnagar, where BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said the BJP should face defeat in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath and other BJP leaders. The Mahapanchayat was organized by the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) at the Government Inter College Ground in Muzaffarnagar to protest against the Centre’s controversial agricultural laws.

“This (Muzaffarnagar) is the sugarcane belt. There was one government which raised the price of sugarcane by Rs 80, while the other government increased it by Rs 50. Is the Adityanath government weaker than these two governments? It has not increased the price. One Even from Rs. This government should be given ‘vote ki chhot’ (election defeat). The slogan of ‘fasal ke daam nahi, vote nahi’ (no fair price for crops, no votes) will have to be raised,” Tikait told the mega rally I said that farmers from UP and neighboring states participated.

Hitting out at the Center over the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP), the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) said ‘India for Sale’ boards have been put up.

Describing Modi, Adityanath and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as “outsiders”, the farmer leader said he has no objection if he becomes prime minister by winning elections from Uttarakhand or Gujarat. “But these rioters will not be tolerated on the soil of Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Tikait said the SKM’s aim is “to save the country and its mission is not limited to Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand”. He further claimed that the country’s railways, airlines and airports were being “sold” with “privatization of electricity” and “sale of roads”.

Quoting top industrialists, he alleged, “Banks are being sold like FCI land is being given to Adani. ‘Sale of India’ boards have been put up and the buyers are Ambani and Adani.”

He also claimed that state-run energy giant Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and fuel retailer Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) are in “threat”.

Popular names like Medha Patkar and Yogendra Yadav were also seen on the stage. Yadav was given a yellow dress by Tikait, while a mace was presented to the BKU leader at the event.

Varun Gandhi supported the farmers

Meanwhile, BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Sunday described the protesting farmers as “our own flesh and blood” and suggested that the government should re-engage with them to reach common ground.

“Millions of farmers have gathered in Muzaffarnagar today in protest. They are our own flesh and blood. We need to reconnect with them in a respectful way: understand their pain, their point of view and work with them to reach common ground. . ground,” he wrote on Twitter.

BKU’s media in-charge Dharmendra Malik said that farmers from 300 organizations spread across different states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka have gathered for this event. He said that more than 5,000 langars have been set up for the participants, including some mobile stalls.

Farmers, including women wearing flags of different organizations and different colored caps, were seen reaching the venue in buses, cars and tractors.

A woman farmer leader from Karnataka addressed the gathering in Kannada language. One of the participants blew ‘Ransingha’ (trumpet), a picture of which was posted on Twitter by Kisan Ekta Morcha.

“In the olden times, when the fight was for honor and respect, this yantra (Ransingha) was used. Today, there is a call for war against the BJP’s ‘corporate raj’ by all ‘kisan labor’ unions. ” Tweeted in Hindi.

Meanwhile, the Muzaffarnagar administration refused Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Choudhary’s request to sprinkle flowers from a helicopter at the venue and the participants of the mahapanchayat.

City Magistrate Abhishek Singh rejected the request saying it could not be allowed due to security reasons.

The district administration has deployed policemen at the residences of Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and BJP MLA Umesh Malik as a precautionary measure.

The SKM claimed on Saturday that thousands of farmers from 15 states had reached Muzaffarnagar to take part in the mahapanchayat.

The umbrella body of 40 farmers’ unions spearheading the farmers’ movement against the Centre’s three agricultural laws said the event would prove that the movement has the support of “all castes, religions, states, classes, small traders and other sections of society”. Was.

“The Mahapanchayat of September 5 will make the Yogi-Modi governments realize the power of farmers, farm laborers and supporters of the agricultural movement.

The Muzaffarnagar mahapanchayat will be the biggest ever in the last nine months.

It has been more than nine months since farmers’ protests against three controversial laws first reached Delhi’s borders.
