Who is Mouni Roy?

Who does not know Mouni Roy or Mon (as her close friends call her). But very few people know that she is from Cooch Behar, West Bengal. According to information from Wikipedia, her grandfather, Shekhar Chandra Roy was a famous Jatra theater artist and her mother Mukti is a theater artist. His late father Anil Roy was the office superintendent of the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad.

She did her schooling till class 12 from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Baburhat, Coochbehar and then moved to Delhi. She was a student of Miranda House, University of Delhi, where she did her graduation and later joined Jamia Millia Islamia for Masters in Mass Communication.


Mouni’s trend was towards dance and acting since college days. So, after packing bags for Mumbai, Mouni fortunately got a role in 2006 in one of the most popular daily soaps of Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms – Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. After the leap of the show, she played the character of KT (Krishna Tulsi) in the show.

After Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she featured in a number of shows and became a household name. She was seen in Zara Nachke Dikha, Kasturi, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Do Saheliyaan. But it was in the mythological show Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev opposite Mohit Raina where she played Devi Sati on the screen which earned her applause.

She was later seen in Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 and rose to fame once again with the Naagin series by Ekta Kapoor.

Her performance as a Naagin on the small screen got immense love and awards from the audience. In 2011, Mouni Roy made her Punjabi film debut with Hero Hitler in Love.

Mouni Roy’s Bollywood debut

Soon, the Naagin of the TV world made her big jump and made her Hindi film debut in 2018 with Gold opposite Akshay Kumar. Later, he was featured in Romeo Akbar Walter, Made in China, London Confidential and Vale.

This was followed by Ayan Mukerji’s blockbuster Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, in which Mouni made headlines by portraying the villain Junoon with utmost conviction. His acting was appreciated and loved a lot by the critics and public alike.


Mouni Roy got married to her love businessman Suraj Nambiar on January 27, 2022 in Goa and recently the couple did the grand launch of their first restaurant named ‘Badmaash’ in Andheri, Mumbai.




The grand bash was attended by the likes of Disha Patani, Ankita Lokhande, Tejasswi Prakash, Karan Kundrra and model-actress Giorgia Andriani.
