BJP leader Jitin Prasada said on Thursday that for the first time a government is coming to power in Uttar Pradesh and that too with a majority.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Prasad, who made the jump from Congress to BJP last year, said: “This is a historic decision of the people of UP. This is the first time that any government is coming back in UP, that too with a majority.”
Prasad said that apart from eastern UP, which is considered easy for the BJP, western UP has also voted for the ‘jodi’ of PM Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. “Yogi-ji and Modi-ji have fought for ‘sanskriti’. I have seen that BJP workers work for the whole five years, not just elections.
Prasad joined the BJP, which came about because of his longstanding differences with the Congress leadership. The two-time MP was among 23 leaders who stirred up the 136-year-old party in a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi in August 2020, suggesting several organizational changes and calling for “introspection”.
Meanwhile, the BJP created history on Thursday as it won Uttar Pradesh despite opposition from farmers, the odds of power and the Covid-19 wave. The BJP is set to become the first party in Uttar Pradesh to get a second consecutive term in more than three decades. The state, with 80 parliamentary seats, holds the key to power at the Centre.
