Afridi said that it was very frustrating for him when his recovery was not going the way he wanted and he even thought of giving up on a few occasions.

Premier Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has had a tough time during his rehabilitation session following a knee injury that kept him out of the game for a long time last year. Afridi suffered an injury during the tour of Sri Lanka last year and missed the Asia Cup 2022 but recovered in time for the T20s. World Cup in Australia. He played all the matches in the mega ICC tournament but a fielding injury during the final again ruled him out for a long time.

Afridi said that it was very frustrating for him when his recovery was not going the way he wanted and he even thought of giving up on a few occasions.

“There were times when I wanted to give up. I was only working one muscle and it wasn’t improving. Often during rehabilitation sessions, I would tell myself ‘I’m done, I can’t do this anymore’ Could’,” Afridi told PCB Digital.

He also revealed his source of inspiration during tough times as he watched his bowling videos to keep going.

“But then I used to watch my bowling on YouTube and see how well I did and that motivated me and I told myself ‘to push a little harder’… Being out of cricket due to injury is a fast bowler disappointing for.” she added.

Pakistan have missed Shaheen’s services in recent times, especially in the longest format where he has not been able to perform well in home conditions. The left-arm fast bowler admitted that he was desperate to get back on the field after seeing his team suffer in the last few months in Tests.

“It came while I was looking [Multan Test] Match and our tailenders could not finish the game. I wanted to hit some sixes out there and finish the match for Pakistan. Also, when they [England] Was scoring a lot of runs, I wanted to give my inputs with the ball,” he said.

The 22-year-old is all set to make his comeback in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League as he revealed that he has ticked all the boxes to return to the field.

“HBL PSL is one of the best leagues in the world and the quality of cricket tests you as a bowler. I am very excited to be back here and looking forward to all the challenges that lie ahead for me. Thanks to Almighty, I am doing well. I am ticking both the bowling workload and fitness requirement boxes,” he said.
