The inclusion of Rishabh Pant over Sanju Samson has raised eyebrows, especially with the way the former has batted in recent times. The Delhi Capitals skipper managed just one decent inning in recent times, which came against England, where he scored a century to take his team home in the series decider. Also, Pant’s shares have been declining and even he was kept on the bench for most part of the T20I World Cup in Australia.

Pant’s scores in his last nine innings in the two white-ball formats read 10, 15, 11, 6, 6, 3, 9, 9 and 27.
Samson, on the other hand, shone in the limited opportunities he got with the bat, including a 38-ball 36 in the first ODI. Speaking on this whole issue, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria lashed out at the BCCI. He said that Pant is not a limited overs cricketer, Samson needs more opportunities.
“India should accept the fact that Rishabh Pant is not a white-ball cricketer. They have tried him all over the order, just so that he can score runs. But what about Sanju Samson? Did he do anything wrong by scoring 36?

“From fans to former players, everyone has expressed their displeasure over this. It is all very disappointing for Sanju Samson as he is being treated like an average cricketer.”
Here, it is to be noted that Samson led Rajasthan Royals to the final in IPL 2022 and was subsequently dropped despite being selected for the tour of Ireland and England. He eventually found himself out of contention for the T20 World Cup, only to be re-selected for the tour of New Zealand where he warmed the bench for the T20Is.

Furthermore, the former Pakistan spinner said that the management didn’t treat Deepak Hooda well and now the batsman has lost all his confidence.
“Deepak Hooda was dancing when the ball started seaming. He could not understand what was happening. When he was doing well, the team management shattered his confidence. Now he has been asked to play in a tough situation where he doesn’t know what to do.”
