Root said not playing the second Test was disappointing for Mark Wood, who despite the pain, bowled in the second innings of India’s second Test.
“He bowled very well. It’s disappointing for him and for us. It gives some other guys a chance to move on.”
Root also said that David Malan, who was called in to bolster England’s struggling batting line-up, will bat at the top of the order. Malan could have played at No 3 and Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns were ready to open the batting.
