Madhya Pradesh Congress raps Chouhan government on bad roads, bad administrative response

As local civic agencies have been filling potholes on the roads of state capital Bhopal Chief Minister Shivraj Singh ChouhanThe Congress party has intensified attacks on the state government over the poor condition of the roads.

A Congress MLA and former minister PC Sharma protested the issue by sitting on potholed roads in Panchsheel area of the city on Monday.

He also distributed certificates to the local people who showed him the ‘road in the potholes’. Local people say that the municipal corporation had put asphalt on the road months ago, but now there are potholes on the road and it gets waterlogged after rain.

The state Congress also tweeted pictures of broken roads in various areas of the city on Monday, calling them evidence of corruption of the Shivraj government.

After Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan issued directions to make the roads pothole-free a few days ago, local bodies including BMC, CPA and Public Works Department had done temporary patchwork on the broken roads, but the rains have stopped and the weather has dried up. However, due to accumulation of debris and stones on the surface of the roads, commuters are facing a lot of trouble.

Despite assurances from BMC commissioner KVS Choudhary Kolsani, the pipeline laying work was not completed on August 20 and is still on in the old city.

Residents said that the condition of not only main roads but also access roads and service roads has gone from bad to worse in the last few months.

Besides, roads dug for various projects like Bhopal Metro, piped gas supply, sewage and water supply have been left half-finished, causing hardship to commuters.
