GURUGRAM: A 73-year-old woman admitted to a private hospital with Covid died on Monday, the first death linked to the infection in the city this month and the third since November.

Officials said the Manesar resident tested positive for Covid on December 2 and was admitted to the hospital by his family after he developed breathlessness. But all his contacts tested negative.
Doctors at the private hospital said the woman was admitted with high fever, cough and shortness of breath.
She was initially given IV fluids and remdesivir and was on oxygen support. She was given a single dose of tocilizumab before being moved to the ICU.
There, he was intubated and placed on a mechanical ventilator and inotropic support.
The woman suffered a heart attack on Monday. Doctors said that he was given CPR, but he could not be revived.
“She had taken her second dose of Covaxin on August 1. None of his contacts tested positive, but he had fever and cough. He may have contracted Covid from some family members as they were going out for work,” said a doctor.
On November 18, a 75-year-old woman admitted to a private hospital in the city died of Kovid-19. she was also fully vaccinated and took her second Cowishield jab about three months ago. She had concomitant diseases like asthma, diabetes and hypertension.
Four days before that, a 71-year-old man from Sector 56 had died of Kovid in a city hospital. He took his second dose five months ago and was also suffering from high blood pressure and coronary artery disease.
He contracted COVID on November 3 from his family members, who recovered at home.
Although Covid hit the city in March last year, the first death related to the infection occurred in May itself – four people died that month. However, the highest number of deaths occurred during the height of the second wave in May this year, when 343 Covid patients died. A month ago there were 112 deaths.
During September and October this year, when there was a significant drop in cases, Gurugram did not report any Covid deaths. A total of 926 people have died after testing positive so far, of which 610 had comorbidities – 267 had diabetes, 146 had hypertension, 85 had kidney disease and 112 had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Gurugram Chief Medical Officer Virendra Yadav warned people against stepping out.
“Even those who have been fully vaccinated need to follow all the COVID protocols. If their family members are stepping out, they should definitely wear masks and sanitize themselves,” he said.
