They have got to keep making ODIs exciting, says Glenn McGrath as he is interested to see the future of format

Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath said that he is still in love with ODIs but admitted that the organizers will have to do a lot to keep the format exciting.

The future of ODI cricket came into the spotlight after Ben Stokes decided to retire from the 50-overs game, citing an unmanageable schedule. Many current and former players have talked about the future of ODIs, with many stating that the organizers should think about scrapping the format.

Speaking to reporters, as quoted by News18, McGrath said that he still enjoys Tests and one-day cricket, with the former being the ultimate form of the game for him.

He also went to say that ODIs will still remain exciting as long as teams are able to score runs and said that he is interested in seeing where the format goes next. He went on to say that the game will have a few challenges in front of it and the organizers will have to find ways to keep the format exciting.

“I am very much a traditionalist. I liked Test, I liked my ODIs. Test cricket is till the ultimate to me. I hope that it is protected and still held in high regard.”

“As for the ODIs, it is still exciting as long as they are scoring runs. Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. They have got a few challenges,” said McGrath.

The Australian great also went on to say that he wouldn’t be surprised to see more youngsters opting for the T20 format in the coming years.

“See teams are now having separate T20 and ODI teamsthey are nearly getting more specific. Yeah, the money is in T20 cricket isn’t it? To be honest, a lot of players, a lot of youngsters coming up will look to play T20s,” said McGrath.
