After losing the first game by 31 runs, the Indians were once again beaten by seven wickets after putting up a good 287-run partnership on the board.
Pant, who scored 85 runs, said after the match, “The track was a bit slow and also, we had enough runs on the board.”
“Last match (1st ODI), we chased and in this match we batted first, so when he batted, the wicket was much better to bat on. In the second innings, it got slower and slower as the game progressed. Gone.
“Today, it was the same but he batted well in the middle overs, so he chased down the target. We didn’t get enough wickets in the middle overs,” he said.
SA spinners were better, admits India keeper
Pant accepted that Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram And Tabraiz Shamsi Bowled better than Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal in two games.
“I think they (South African spinners) were more consistent in their line and length and they are used to playing in these conditions,” he said.
One of the biggest reasons for the loss is the lack of playing time of 50 overs for a long period, Pant said.
“We are playing ODIs after a long time and there are many factors we can talk about but as a team, we always want to improve and hopefully we will be able to improve them in the coming matches. ”
Not worried about Bhuvneshwar’s form
Pant dismisses questions of veteran fast bowler’s poor form Bhuvneshwar Kumar,
“As a team, we are always looking to improve and I don’t think there is much concern about Bhuvi bhai’s form. Obviously, we are playing ODIs after a long time, so we are just getting used to the pace. We are obviously disappointed after losing the series but we are looking at ways to improve.”
