These monuments will be illuminated to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence

New DelhiThe Delhi government on Monday said five major monuments in the city would be illuminated with the tricolor theme to mark the 75th year of independence. These monuments are the tomb of Birji Khan in RK Puram; Baradari Qudsia Bagh in Kashmere Gate; Bada Lao’s dome in the spring garden; Gol Gumbaz near Lodhi Flyover; and Pike’s Tomb at Mukarba Square, according to an official statement.

“Historic monuments Delhi A symbol of India’s rich heritage for centuries, protecting them will help the coming generations to understand the history of India better,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.

Sisodia on Monday held a high level meeting with the officials concerned and reviewed the status of memorial sites under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government. Five major monuments of Delhi will be illuminated with the tricolor theme to commemorate the 75th year of independence, the statement said.

A senior official said efforts would be made to complete the process by mid-August. The Delhi government is working on restoration of monuments under its jurisdiction, with the deputy chief minister saying these extremely important historical buildings have been “neglected for a long time” causing “great damage” to heritage structures.

There are a large number of iconic monuments in the landscape of Delhi. While some are located in spacious gardens, many are in dense neighbourhoods, surrounded by urban agglomerations.
