It is expected that the company will stop selling one of its older iPhone models when the iPhone 15 series arrives later this year.

Apple iPhone 15 launch is expected later this year, and rumor mills are busy churning out new details and even leaked design renders of these iPhones. Apple is widely expected to introduce the iPhone 15 series with USB C charging support, which may or may not be limited to select markets.

But with the launch hype already set in motion, there are other aspects of Apple’s iPhone catalog that deserve attention.

The new launch means older iPhone models will be discontinued and as per Apple’s tradition over the past few years, we could see the company phasing out the iPhone 12 models from the global lineup. The iPhone maker usually stops selling three-year-old models after a new version comes out.

And with the iPhone 15 likely to be launched, it’s time for the iPhone 12 series to clear the decks for the new model to replace it. iPhones now come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with the Mini, Plus, Pro and Pro Max as part of the portfolio over the years.

But the vanilla model still holds its place, while Minis and Pluses have come and gone. Reports suggest that the Mini series is done for good, at least until Apple decides otherwise. And this year’s Plus model could also turn out to be a one-off effort from the company, which means you can buy the Plus model but not in abundance.

Taking the iPhone 12 off the shelf doesn’t mean you won’t be able to buy them or that Apple will end support for the model. After all, Apple is one of the few brands that provides OS and security updates for 4 years. And in markets like India, where you still have the iPhone Xr, iPhone 11 and even the iPhone SE being sold, the older models will become more attractive to those looking for an affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem. Looking for the door.
