You will see a more confident Yuzi in this series,” he said at a virtual press conference on the announcement of title sponsors for India’s tour of Sri Lanka.

“I’m just working on my angles and trying to bowl more in general.” Chahal, who was a key entrant in India’s ODI squad ahead of the 2019 World Cup, was demoted from Grade B to Grade C in the BCCI’s annual contracts list. for the year and did not appear in the home ODI series against England. “My performance – I don’t think it was a dip (in form) or anything. You can’t perform in every match. I will try my level best. Having played the ODI against Australia in Sydney in November last year Chahal said, “This series is very important for me. I keep talking to the bowling coach. Now there is confidence. Right now my main focus is only on this series.

“There has been less cricket than last year, but it is not in our hands. Whatever the series is, we want to perform. Then my focus will be on IPL and then World T20.”

Talking about the information he got from Rahul Dravid, the coach of the Indian team for the ODI and T20 series in Sri Lanka, Chahal said, “He said, do whatever you want to do, focus on what you are doing.

“He told me, you are a senior and need to guide the youngsters in the team. Besides that, he said the series is important to me and I am focusing only on that,” the 30-year-old spinner, who has featured in 54 ODIs and 48 T20 Internationals, said.

Asked about adjusting to ODIs after mainly playing only T20s in the last six months, Chahal said it should not be an issue.

He said, ‘Yes… I am playing the ODI series after a long time. We have already played two practice matches here. ODI is different from T20. I have played more than 50 (ODIs) matches, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

“And when I bowl, I only focus on how to get the batsmen out. That’s it,” he said.

India will play three ODIs on July 13, 16 and 18 respectively, followed by as many T20 matches on July 21, 23 and 25. All the matches will be played at R Premadasa Stadium here.

“It is definitely an important series for Sri Lanka… to prepare for the upcoming matches. The T20 series will be used to focus on the upcoming T2O World Cup.

“The series will be played in a bio-bubble and we are confident of maintaining a safe bio-bubble environment,” he added.
