BJP MP Mitesh Patel raised the issue of religious conversion in Parliament on Tuesday. Speaking during the Zero Hour in the ongoing winter session, the MP from Anand said that there should be a provision to do away with the reservation given to the Scheduled Tribes community after conversion.

“Even after conversion to Christianity, the Scheduled Tribe community gets the benefit of reservation. Those who convert continue to enjoy the privileges of minority and scheduled tribes. Christian missionaries also benefit from it,” Patel said.

He was speaking on the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament. He said that there is a need to bring a law to prevent the Scheduled Tribes community from getting special rights under reservation after they convert to Christianity.

BJP MP Mitesh Patel said that his intention to raise the issue is not to oppose any caste or community, but to provide special rights given by the government to those who are in genuine need. There is no provision to prevent people belonging to the Scheduled Caste community from getting benefits under reservation after converting to Christianity.

He requested that a law should be made for this and said that before this many MPs have raised the issue in Parliament.
