There may be some players who are not ‘comfortable’ on Pakistan tour: Australia Test captain Tim Paine

Australia is set to tour Pakistan in March next year to play three Tests, three ODIs and one T20I in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore for the first time in 24 years. Australia’s Test captain Tim Paine feels there may be some people in the camp who will not be comfortable touring Pakistan.

“There will be some people who will be happy to get expert advice and others will want to know more. If we’re being completely honest, there may be some people who aren’t comfortable going,” Penn said on SYN radio. , as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Australia last toured Pakistan in 1998 and a delegation from Cricket Australia is expected to visit Pakistan to discuss matters related to logistics, team security and COVID-19 protocols with PCB officials and other officials.

Paine said there will be discussions between the players and the board and in the end it will be an individual’s preference whether or not to be on the tour.

“It’s happened before when tours to other countries go back forever. Again there are issues that I’m sure will pop-up. We’ll discuss it, people will get the right answers and we feel comfortable. Then we hope we get the best team. At the end of the day, it comes down to the individual,” he said.

Paine also recalled the security measures in Pakistan when he last visited a World XI team in 2017, which took part in an exhibition series. The Test captain of Australia said that having a helicopter over your head 20-30 meters above your bus was comforting but at the same time disturbing.

“The security we got on that tour was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my life. We had helicopters, five kilometers of roads closed around us, checkpoints in the ground like every kilometer, this was extraordinary,” Paine said.

“The fact that you’re looking at it and thinking to yourself that it might be necessary, but at the same time seeing the planning and execution of it, there are literally some helicopters 20-30 meters above your bus. Your head was resting, but at the same time it was troubling,” he said.
