There is no need for complete lockdown right now: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu has announced a fresh lockdown ahead of the Pongal festivals as the number of Covid cases in the state jumped to nearly 14,000 in 24 hours. After tightening restrictions in the state, Health Minister Ma Subramaniam on Tuesday said a complete lockdown may be a last resort and is not needed right now and reiterated that the restricted lockdown imposed in the state is sufficient for the current COVID situation. ,

Speaking to the media after imposing new restrictions due to the rise in Covid cases, the Health Minister said, “There is no need for a complete lockdown as of now. The CM has insisted that the economy should not be affected, for now.” The restricted lockdown is enough.”

According to a report by NDTV, the Test Positivity Rate (TPR), which is an important parameter that measures the severity of the spread of the virus, has crossed 10 per cent in Tamil Nadu. The 13,990 cases detected on Monday were among 1,35,266 samples tested across the state. Also, 11 deaths were reported in the state taking the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 36,866.

Chennai topped the list with 6,190 cases followed by Chengalpattu (1,696) and Tiruvallur (1,054), Coimbatore (602), Kancheepuram (508), Trichy (348). The state has not recorded a new omicron 185 people were reported to have tested positive for the latest version of Covid, of which 179 have been discharged.
