State Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavati Rathod, MLA D Anasuya alias Sitakka, other leaders and public representatives on Monday offered prayers in view of the temple getting World Heritage status.

Rathod, who took a walk around the temple complex, said that she would take all possibilities of development of the temple under the attention of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

He said that after getting recognition from UNESCO, this temple, about 200 km from Hyderabad, will have a wonderful development.

He said that the state government would further develop the 800 year old Kakatiya era temple complex and provide all facilities to the temple visitors. Mulugu District Collector S Krishna Aditya said that the UNESCO tag is a recognition of the district and Telangana.

Kakatiya Heritage Trust (KHT) founder-trustee and former IAS officer BV Papa Rao, who took the matter forward and also attended a meeting with UNESCO officials in Paris in 2019, said it was a decade of his life for him. There was a long journey that ended with the United Nations body. Ramappa temple was declared as a World Heritage Site on Sunday.

He recalled that the then Culture Minister (in undivided AP) J Geetha Reddy had formed a committee in 2010 with KHT as the coordinator. KHT’s efforts gained momentum with the formation of Telangana (in 2014) and the trust launched a nomination drive in 2016, Papa Rao, who served as an advisor to the Telangana government, told PTI.

He said the Ramappa temple could become India’s nomination for UNESCO in 2019, when Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao would take it up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Papa Rao, who explained the various developments in efforts to get the temple UNESCO recognition, said the inscription is only a milestone but not the end of the journey. Recognition on the world stage is a matter of pride for the citizens of Telangana.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday said UNESCO has conferred a World Heritage Inscription on the historic Rudreswara Temple, also known as the Ramappa Temple, at Palampet in Telangana’s Mulugu district.

The Rudreshwar temple was built in 1213 AD by Recharla Rudra, a general of the Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva during the reign of the Kakatiya kingdom.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is worshiped by devotees. The presiding deity is Ramalingeshwara Swamy. It is also known as Ramappa Temple after the sculptor who worked in the temple for 40 years.
