According to the report of The Wire, former Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF) KK Sharma, senior officer of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Rajeshwar Singh and Chief Advisor to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal VK Jain are also likely to be spied on. Apart from this, a retired officer of Research Analysis Wing (RAW), a junior officer of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and two former Army officers are also suspected to be espionage. Actually, the names of these people were included in the database of 50 thousand phone numbers, whose numbers were spied on. These numbers have been spied on by clients of Israeli spyware company NSO Group.

Added Sharma’s name after attending RSS-related program
According to The Wire, KK Sharma’s name was added to the list a month after he attended a conference related to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This conference was held in Kolkata in February 2018. After this program, there was a lot of uproar in West Bengal. The TMC had objected to Sharma’s participation in an RSS-related program.

CBI officer’s family was also spied on
The Wire report also suggested the possibility of spying on the family of ED officer Rajeshwar Singh between 2017 and 2019. He is presently posted in Lucknow. Rajeshwar Singh had probed the role of former finance minister P Chidambaram in 2G spectrum allocation. His name was in the news in 2018. At that time, the Center had removed both of them from the post after a public dispute between CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana. Rajeshwar Singh is said to have played an important role in this case.

The name of former IAS officer VK Jain is also included in the list. Jain has been the chief advisor to Kejriwal. His name was added to Pegasus’s database in 2018. At this time, the Kejriwal government was working to improve the education policy and infrastructure of Delhi.

Colonel who disagrees with the government is also in the spy list
Former Army Officer Col Mukul Dev’s name was added to the database in 2019. Mukul Dev has expressed his dissent against many decisions of the government. The most talked about case was to end the free ration of army officers posted in quiet areas. On this issue, Colonel Mukul Dev had threatened the government to go to court.

The colonel told The Wire that I was targeted to fight for the army. I was aware that since 2018 I have been kept under surveillance. I had also lodged a complaint with the Punjab Police. Another army officer, Colonel Amit Kumar, was also placed in the surveillance list. He had petitioned the court against the case against the soldiers posted in the violence-prone areas.

According to the Wire report, BSF Commandant Jagdish Mathani, retired RAW officer Jitendra Kumar Ojha and senior officials of NITI Aayog were also included in the surveillance list.
