Glad that now the United States is formally part of the International Solar Alliance, a visionary initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav said.

The United States on Wednesday became the 101st member of the India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA), as US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry called for catalysing the global energy transition through a solar-led approach. ISA Framework Agreement was signed for

Kerry described the US membership as a major step towards rapid deployment of solar power, as he formally signed the framework agreement at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

“It is a long time coming, and we are delighted to join the International Solar Alliance, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi led in its creation,” Kerry said.

“We have worked out the details and it is a process we are pleased to be a part of. This will be a significant contribution to more rapid deployment of solar energy on a global scale. This will be especially important for developing countries,” he said. said.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav welcomed the US as the 101st member of the ISA.

“This move will strengthen the ISA and spur future action on providing the world with a clean source of energy,” Yadav said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed the development, saying, “Amazing news @ClimateEnvoy! I thank @POTUS and wholeheartedly welcome the United States of America to @isolaralliance. Will further strengthen the alliance in our shared quest to be harnessed.”

The ISA framework, first circulated in 2016 to support countries, emphasizes providing global relevance and local benefits to all countries through cooperation.

ISA’s key interventions focus on readiness and enabling activities, risk mitigation and innovative financing tools to facilitate the promotion and deployment of solar technologies in target markets.

“USA’s support of the ISA’s framework and vision is an encouraging development, especially as our 101st member nation, which is a significant milestone in itself, showing that countries around the world are developing the economic and economic potential of solar.” Recognizing the climate mitigating value, as well as the potential of this energy source as a catalyst for the global energy transition,” said Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, ISA.

“We are now even more committed to turning this belief into tangible projects and on-the-ground development, accelerating the pace of solar adoption that has been built so far. We hope that the rest of the country and economies will follow suit, and align with us to achieve rapid, affordable and effective climate action, as well as achieve their respective economic growth and long-term development priorities,” he said.

The alliance highlights how the approaches and methods detailed in the ISA framework have already yielded results, with ISA building a solar project pipeline of approximately 5 GW of installed capacity.

The vision detailed in the framework is designed to result in a vision for an interconnected global grid, which was formally launched and jointly organized by the ‘Green Grid Initiative – One Sun One World One Grid’ (GGI-OSOOOOOOOG). ) was launched during the World Leaders Summit. COP26 by UK Presidency of COP26 and India Presidency of ISA in Glasgow last week.

Earlier at COP26, the United States also joined the GGI-OSOWOG Steering Committee, consisting of five members – the US, Australia, France, the UK and India – and supported the One Sun Declaration with 80 countries.

The launch of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former French President Francois Hollande at the 21st session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-21) in Paris in November 2015. , France.
