New Delhi: There has been a steady decline in the number of Covid-19 cases in India since the peak of the second wave on May 7, a Union Health Ministry official said on Tuesday.

Agarwal also pointed out that at present only 5.5 lakh active cases have been reported, which means that the spread of infection is low, and hence the pressure on healthcare is also less.
Talking about COVID-19 testing for early detection of the spread of the infection, he said that during the peak of the second wave around 21 lakh samples were tested daily, and even now with the decline in the daily number of COVID cases. Later, about 18 lakh samples are being tested daily.
Elaborating on the status of COVID vaccination in the country, he said, “A total of 27.27 crore people have been given the first dose of the vaccine, while 5.84 crore people have been covered by the second dose.”
A total of 33.11 crore people have been vaccinated in India so far.
The Union Health Ministry said that India has achieved a distinct edge in the total vaccine doses administered in the world. The ministry said, “It took 163 days for India to reach the benchmark of 32 crores, leaving America behind. America took 193 days.”
The Union Health Ministry further said that a total of 51 delta Plus variant cases reported in India.
About modern Kovid-19 Vaccine, NITI Aayog Member-Health Dr VK Paul said, “Moderna, the first modern internationally developed vaccine, has been given the new drug permission. This new drug permission is for restricted use.”
“There are now four vaccines Covaxin, Covishield, Sputnikavi and Moderna. We will close the deal soon pfizer Also,” he said.
Dr Paul also noted that all four vaccines (Covaxin, Covishield, Sputnikavi, and Moderna) are safe for lactating mothers and have no association with infertility. “The advisory regarding vaccination for pregnant women will be issued soon. The vaccine is safe for pregnant women and the health ministry is investigating it further,” he said.
