Stranded people gather and wait for the border to open, which was closed by the authorities in Chaman, Pakistan. Chaman Border Crossing is one of the busiest border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Thousands of Afghans and Pakistanis cross daily and a steady stream of trucks carry goods from the Arabian Sea port city of Karachi in Pakistan to land-locked Afghanistan.

The security situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating day by day as Taliban forces advance and continue to capture more provinces. The United Nations has said that more than a million Afghan citizens have been internally displaced in the war-torn country.

Earlier in the day, at least 11 people were killed and 39 others were injured in the ongoing fighting in the Afghan city of Kunduz, said Ehsanullah Fazli, the head of the Kunduz Public Health Directorate.

Given the security situation, the US Embassy in Afghanistan has urged its citizens to leave the country immediately ‘using available commercial flight options’.

“Given the security conditions and staffing shortages, the embassy’s ability to assist US citizens in Afghanistan is extremely limited, even within Kabul,” it said.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s special envoy in New Delhi met Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said, “The rapid deterioration of the security situation is a serious matter. A peaceful and stable Afghanistan requires the rights of all sections and interests are required. Society is promoted and protected.”

Jaishankar also tweeted, “Shared Indian perspective on recent developments in Afghanistan. As well as the concerns of the region that I heard during recent talks.”
