Dubai: ICC Men’s T20 The World Cup 2021 schedule will be announced in a digital show on Tuesday, the ICC has said.
The World Cup is to be held in Oman and UAE from 17 October to 14 November.
Issa Guha will join Darren Sammy and Dinesh Karthik on the digital show to preview the mega-event on t20worldcup.com and ICC Cricket App on August 17th from 9am Dubai time (+4 GMT).
All three stars have been part of T20 World Cup winning teams in the past – Karthik in 2007 with India, Guha with England in 2009 and Darren Sammy twice as captain with West Indies in 2012 and 2016.
Issa Guha said in an ICC release, “I have enjoyed watching and commenting on T20 cricket from around the world and I am really excited to be part of a show around the announcement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup schedule ” “It will also be a great opportunity to catch up with my friends and colleagues on the circuit – Darren Sammy and Dinesh Karthik – as we look forward to the tournament and discuss all the match-ups.”
Darren Sammy said, “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a pinnacle event in the T20 format.” “We have had the pleasure of lifting the trophy twice and I am sure West Indies will be one of the favorites to win it once again. I know the fans are back home and the rest of the world is waiting with enthusiasm for this event. I am looking forward to be a part of the show and discuss the programme.”
Dinesh Karthik said, “The announcement of the schedule takes us one step closer to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and this is the point from where the teams start making their final plans.” “The players in the T20 format have only gotten more skilled in the last five years since the last edition, and I am sure we are in for some great performances and a nerve-wracking thriller.”
The group for the T20 World Cup has already been announced. Eight teams will compete in the first round for a place in the Super 12 – Ireland, the Netherlands and Namibia and Sri Lanka will form Group A. Group B This includes Oman, PNG, Scotland and Bangladesh. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round of the competition.
Group 1 of Super 12 will consist of West Indies, England, Australia and South Africa, winners of Group A and runners-up of Group B from Round 1. Group 2 will consist of India and Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan as well as India and Pakistan. The winner of Group B and the runner-up of Group A from Round 1.
