The reason behind cancellation of IPL 2021 and 5th Test is not Covid, says Michael Vaughan, Aakash Chopra replies,

The cricket world has been split in two since the fifth and final Test between England and India was canceled following a Covid outbreak in the Indian squad. The Indian Cricket Board and Indian cricketers are facing heavy criticism from former England cricketers who said that the resumption of cricket has started again. IPL 14 has canceled the Test instead of rescheduling it to a later date.

Now, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is joined by several other experts who have weighed in on the situation and the latest to join the bandwagon is Aakash Chopra.

Responding to a tweet by former England captain Michael Vaughan, Chopra reminded him how England canceled their South Africa series last year. Chopra wrote,England canceled their SA tour under similar circumstances i.e. uneasiness over a COVID outbreak. #just saying “

The former India cricketer-turned-commentator was referring to England’s stand last year when they decided to walk back home from the South Africa ODI series following Covid-19 cases in their camp.

Vaughan, in his tweet, had pointed to the coincidence between the IPL franchises flying players from England to the UAE for a six-day quarantine before the start of the second phase of IPL 2021.

Chopra had addressed the issue in his YouTube channel earlier as well. He said, ‘You have to look a little bit inward. You came back from South Africa, there was no positive case in your team. Sri Lanka – You went back again. You went back to your home from other countries in an instant. So, why such sudden insensitivity to Covid? “

The BCCI said in an official release that both the Indian and England cricket boards will work towards the rescheduling of the Manchester Test.

“In return for the strong relationship between the BCCI and the ECB, the BCCI has offered the ECB the rescheduling of the canceled Test match. Both the boards will work towards finding a window to reschedule this Test match,” the BCCI said.

However, it was the ECB that was the first to announce the cancellation of the Manchester Test. The ECB earlier said in a statement that India lost the Test and the series was drawn 2-2. It was amended immediately and the final result was unclear.

“We offer our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause frustration and inconvenience to many,” the ECB said.
