Petrol, Diesel Price Today, October 17: After the latest price hike, petrol price in the national capital touched Rs 105.84 per liter, the highest ever. Petrol price hiked to Rs 111.77 per liter in Mumbai
Petrol and diesel prices increased for the fourth consecutive day across the country on Sunday, October 17. Petrol has become costlier by 34-35 paise on Sunday while diesel has become costlier by 35-37 paise. This was the 15th increase in petrol prices and the 18th increase in diesel prices since the last week of September.
After the latest price hike, petrol price in the national capital touched Rs 105.84 per liter, the highest ever. Payroll price increased to Rs 111.77 per liter in financial capital. Earlier in May, Mumbai became the first metro city in the country where the price of petrol touched Rs 100 per litre. Petrol was being sold at Rs 106.43 in Kolkata and Rs 103.01 in Chennai.
Diesel price also follows a similar trend on October 17. Diesel price increased to Rs 94.57 per liter in the national capital. After the latest hike, the price of diesel in Mumbai increased to Rs 102.52 per litre. In Kolkata, a liter of diesel was sold for Rs 97.68 and in Chennai for Rs 98.92.
Fuel prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges. There are central and state taxes for more than 60 per cent of the retail sale price of petrol and 54 per cent of diesel. The central government levies excise duty of Rs 32.90 per liter on petrol and Rs 31.80 on diesel. Petrol and diesel rates in India are influenced by Brent crude oil. Since India is a net importer of oil, the rates of petrol and diesel in the country are at par with international prices.
