Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition has demanded setting up of a COVID-19 relief commission on the lines of Agricultural Debt Relief Commission to reduce the burden of disease on the poor.

Satisan said that many financial institutions are sending goons posing as officers for loan recovery who threaten the family of defaulters.
Satisan said that “living with Covid” is the current motto around the world, and that stopping all other businesses to keep the pandemic at bay was not the right strategy. The opposition has been targeting the government for some time now over the pandemic-induced restrictions.
He also hit out at the government’s failure to provide more relaxation and relief to the public and demanded that the government should immediately set up an Epidemic Relief Commission, similar to the Agricultural Debt Relief Commission set up by the LDF government in 1996. The state witnessed an increase in farmer suicides.
The opposition later walked out of the assembly after Speaker MB Rajesh refused to allow an adjournment motion based on the minister’s reply.
