Actress Tillotama Shome is riding high on rave reviews for her performance as a RAW agent in Disney+ Hotstar’s latest series, The Night Manager, the Hindi adaptation of the 2016 British television series and author John Le Carré’s novel of the same. I didn’t watch the original series because I had different people saying to me, ‘Oh , You’re playing Olivia Colman!’ It scared me a bit. I am a huge fan of hers and I knew if I see it, it will be very difficult for me to pull it off. I had to make the script my own because in the cultural context for a RAW agent India And an agent in London is completely different,” Shome elaborated.
Recently, Kapoor exclusively revealed to us that Shome’s character filled him with ‘jealousy’ and if given a chance, he would love to reprise the role he played in The Night Manager. Reacting to this, she is overwhelmed and says, “Really? (Laughs) I had only one scene with Anil Kapoor. We had never met before we started shooting for The Night Manager. We never had any common social friend. On the first day of the shoot, some people told me that they were eager to meet me and Saswat (Chatterjee; co-actor). I really don’t understand why. But I was very moved by that message.”
Ask him about how working with Kapoor was an enriching experience and the Delhi Crime 2 (2022) and Sir (2018) actor shared, “When we started shooting, we had something to talk to each other about. Talking about how she inspired her artiste, she comments, “If I too were in the limelight and the talk of the town, I might have understood their curiosity about me because such curiosity is seasonal. it occurs. When your show is on, people get curious about you for a while and then they forget about you. But I saw authenticity in their curiosity, and it’s something I look forward to learning from and developing. She continues, “As long as I live, I also hope that I will never be satisfied with what I know and what I feel I know. I truly yearn to understand and learn And I am very curious about new things. I saw all this in him. I think it is his youthful curiosity which compels him to say such things.
Known for her unconventional and off-beat choices and nuanced performances, Shome tells us that someday, she would love to play a flamboyant and larger-than-life character similar to the one Kapoor portrayed in The Night Manager. “One day, I hope I have the acting chops, craft and charisma to play a larger-than-life character like Shelley (Kapoor’s character in the show). That would be a far cry from who I am. If I can do it and go that long in my mind, I think it would be very challenging to play a character like Shelley. I don’t know if I will be able to succeed or not, but it will be worth a try (smiles),” said the actress, who made her acting debut with filmmaker Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding (2001).
