Surat: A 34-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances at Khatodara police station on Thursday night, hours after he was detained following an uproar at a petrol pump near Sosyo circle.
Police claimed that Ravindra Sangadia died due to unknown reasons. Police said Sangadia and his friend Nikhil Prajapati, who was allegedly intoxicated, had a fight over getting a free drinking water bottle for the purchase of petrol worth Rs 500.
A case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons and efforts are on to identify those who attacked Sangadia. The incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump.
The complaint was made by the victim Hitendra.
“There are no marks of injury on the body of the deceased. Only the postmortem will ascertain the exact cause,” said an official of Khatodara police station.
Sangadia and his associate Nikhil Prajapati, both employees in the FMCG delivery van, went to Shri Sarvodaya Petroleum at around 9.42 pm. “The two argued with the petrol pump staff over a free water bottle and Sangadia started using abusive language and slapped an employee. One of the pump attendants pushed and slapped him,” said the police.
Meanwhile, the police control room van deployed on patrol saw the fight and came to inquire. The police found both Sangadia and Prajapati drunk and took them to the police station.
The police were completing the formalities to arrest the two and called the family members of both.
“I was in the police station premises when someone informed me that Ravindra has collapsed. I also went to check and found him unconscious. He was then taken to the NCH in a 108 ambulance,” Hitendra said.
