The man who was beaten to death in the Kapurthala gurdwara had 30 cuts, possibly with swords.

The Kapurthala incident was the second case of lynching in Punjab in just two days last week.

Chandigarh:

A man, who was lynched for an alleged sabotage attempt at a gurdwara in Punjab’s Kapurthala, had more than 30 bruises on his body, which were possibly inflicted with swords, according to autopsy reports.

The autopsy report, reviewed by senior medical officer Narinder Singh, said the man, who is yet to be identified, has deep wounds on his neck, head, chest and hip, news agency PTI reported. The report said that it is believed that the person got breathless due to the deep cut on the neck.

Mr Singh said a five-member group of doctors from the local civil hospital conducted the autopsy. They have taken the man’s viscera for chemical test to find out whether he was intoxicated or not. His hair, teeth and blood samples have been taken for DNA test.

The person was cremated when no one came to take the body. No murder case has been registered so far.

The police had said on the day of the incident that there was no ‘visible mark’ of sacrilege in the Kapurthala gurdwara. The murder came a day after another man was lynched to death for allegedly attempting to desecrate the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

City police chief Surinder Singh told reporters that he tried his best to ascertain the identity of the man, but no one came to claim the body. Mr Singh said that the police will register a murder case based on the findings of the investigation which is still in the initial stage.

The manager of the Gurdwara, Amarjeet Singh, who was detained for questioning on Sunday night itself, has filed a case of hurting religious sentiments. The Gurudwara manager alleged that he saw the man trying to disrespect the “Nishan Sahib” or the religious flag.
