Chitradurga: A person has lodged a complaint with Hosadurga police Chitradurga against her father-in-law and other relatives for allegedly forcing her to convert Christianity,
Marappa, 24, of Badaga Jangam Colony in Arvind Nagar near Hospet alleged that he was not being allowed to see his newborn child and wife. He claimed that he was being threatened, blackmailed and assaulted by his wife’s family members for converting to Christianity.
The accused are Vasanthakumar, his father-in-law, Ramachandrappa, his wife’s grandfather, relatives Sudhakar, Manjunath, Sankappa. The matter has once again sparked a debate over alleged conversions in the area.
In his complaint, Marappa said that during the wedding on July 6, 2020, he was forced to take a dip in holy water and declared that he had now converted to Christianity. The accused allegedly tore and burnt the pictures of Hindu deities and asked them not to worship them.
“My wife Sarla and her parents are following Christianity for the last 5-6 years. Before marriage, they forcibly made me take a holy bath. They married me Sarla on July 6, 2020 as per Christian customs Did it. My family did. Didn’t believe in Christianity and in a month, we went back to Hinduism. My father also asked my wife to leave Christianity and come back home within three months. But her The father did not allow him to return to Hinduism, told TOI.
The accused allegedly told him that Hindu goddesses were nothing but “evil” and would go to hell if he worshiped them.
He had sent his wife to her parents’ house during her pregnancy on December 2, 2021. He claimed that he had come to know about the newborn child from others, he claimed. Police said that on January 18, when he went to see the child along with his brothers, the accused abused and beat him up.
