The Kerala Story earned a whopping Rs 35 crore in its opening weekend, compared to The Kashmir Files.

Adah Sharma’s recently released Kerala Story has created a huge controversy with a section of the audience questioning it. Despite this, the Vipul Amrutlal Shah-produced film made a tremendous run at the box office in its opening weekend, surpassing Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, which released the previous year.

The film, which released on Friday last week, collected a whopping Rs 35 crore on Sunday. Industry tracking website Sacnilk reported that the Adah Sharma starrer earned Rs 16.50 crore on Sunday. Meanwhile, collectively on Friday and Saturday, the film has managed to collect a total of around Rs 20 crore. The report further states that the Sudipto Sen-directed film has earned over 52.92 per cent and the collection on the third day of its screening was already over 50 per cent.

In comparison, The Kashmir Files

It earned Rs 3.55 crore on Day 1, Rs 8.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 15.10 crore on Day 3. Thus, the film had earned only Rs 27.15 crore as compared to The Kerala Story which made Rs 35 crore by the end of the first week.

Recently, the film’s lead actress Adah Sharma on her Twitter account gave a befitting reply to those who called The Kerala Story a ‘propaganda’ film. She called her film ‘Asli’ and urged everyone to google ‘ISIS’ and ‘brides’ to know the truth.

“And some are still calling #TheKeralaStory a propaganda film, saying these incidents do not exist even after seeing testimonials of many Indian victims, My humble request, Google two words ISIS and Brides…maybe you heard There’s an account of white girls that might make you think our Indian film is real.”

In a separate tweet, Adah also talked about the overwhelming response she has been receiving for her performance in the film and mentioned that it is a ‘dream come true’ for her. “Standing ovation in the theatre, Hon’ble PM mentioned our film #TheKeralaStory, Critics and audience appreciated my performance, Housefull messages from many of you, Bumper opening! I could not have dreamed so big. All your dreams are coming true for me ❤️ #Greatful (sic),” she added.

Released on 5 May, The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma in the lead role and revolves around the stories of Hindu women from Kerala who were converted to Islam and killed in the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). was smuggled.
