The Kashmir Files, which released on March 11 this year, became a blockbuster at the box office and garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. Many have also criticized its director Vivek Agnihotri for making a propaganda film on the sensitive issue of exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the early 1990s.
Recently, Vivek Agnihotri was trolled after he shared a behind the scenes video from the sets of the film, featuring him and Anupam Kher, who plays Pushkarnath. In the video, Vivek Agnihotri is seen crying bitterly. In a tweet, the filmmaker said that he could not control his emotions after shooting the scene. He claimed that he did not cry when his mother died in 2004 and father died in 2008, but the scene made him cry. Vivek ended his tweet requesting everyone to watch The Kashmir Files for this particular scene. In the 50-second video, Vivek can be seen hugging Anupam Kher and crying.
“When my mother died in 2004, I didn’t cry. When my father died in 2008, I didn’t cry. But when I shot this death scene with @AnupamPKher I couldn’t stop. No son Couldn’t. The intensity of the pain of our Kashmiri Hindu parents is such. Please watch #TheKashmirFiles for this scene”, tweeted Vivek Agnihotri.

However, the emotional video has not been liked by many and the filmmaker was trolled for inciting feelings for the Kashmiri Pandit families. One user wrote that if someone cannot cry over the death of their parents, then they are emotional people. This user further wrote that if someone does not have sympathy for his parents then how can he show mercy to Kashmiri Pandit families.
These are all propaganda. If a son/daughter did not cry over the death of his/her parents then clearly he/she is a completely emotionless person and has no sympathy for anyone.
Wo kisi k liye cry nhi karega weather it us kashmiri pandit or genral pandit.

Another user wrote, “How sad and unnatural at the same time. Haven’t seen anyone who doesn’t cry when their parents die in real life. But cries when someone dies in a movie! This level of overshooting Melodrama can only be done by Dr. Dang and his friends.

Another lashed out at the director, saying if he is concerned about the plight of the Kashmiri Pandit family then why is the video recorded specifically?
And you wanted this private emotional scene to be recorded so that you could show it publicly. yes no crying yes dramatic crying – DA (@DimpleA61567183) 1 April 2022
The filmmaker also drew the ire of a user for monetizing the death of his parents.
Whatever happened in Kashmir was wrong. It’s okay to watch a movie and promote it too. But trying to earn in the name of death of your parents shows you the real one. Not a ridiculous statement? “When my mother died in 2004, I didn’t cry. When my father died in 2008, I didn’t cry” – Ankush (@ankushsingh1) 1 April 2022
Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi and others are playing important roles in the film. The film has so far earned more than Rs 200 crore at the box office.
