Kashmir Files actors Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumar react to IFFI jury chief Nadav Lapid calling the film ‘obscene’ and ‘disinformation’. Angered by the comment, Darshan Kumar said that the film is not on obscenity but on reality. The Vivek Agnihotri directorial is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s and the events that led to it. Darshan said, “Everyone has their own personal opinion on whatever they see and feel. But there is no denying the fact that The Kashmir Files is a film that depicts the real plight of the Kashmiri Pandit community, who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism.”

“So this film is not on vulgarity but on reality,” he further told ETimes.

Anupam Kher, who plays a key role in the film, also shared his views. He wrote on Twitter, “No matter how high the height of a lie..it is always small compared to the truth.”

At the 53rd International Film Festival of India, Israeli filmmaker Nadak Lapid, jury chief, criticized The Kashmir Files and said the film felt like a ‘propaganda, porn film’.

Lapid said, “We were all disturbed and shocked by The Kashmir Files, the 15th film. It struck us as a propaganda, pornographic film, inappropriate for the artistic competition section of such a prestigious film festival. Here on stage with you are those feelings. I feel completely comfortable sharing freely. Since the spirit of the celebration is also one of accepting critical discussion which is essential to art and life.”
