In Maharashtra, 92 MLAs of the opposition BJP have signed a memorandum demanding relaxation in entertainment tax for the recently released film ‘The Kashmir Files’. This memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray by Sudhir Mungantiwar, senior BJP leader and chairman of Maharashtra Legislature Public Accounts Committee.

In a statement issued by the BJP, it has been said that the film, which depicts the atrocities being perpetrated on Hindus by the jihadis, has been well received by the critics and the audience.

The party said that the film expresses the feelings of patriotism and nationalism and hence it should be made tax free in the state.

BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje On Monday, the Rajasthan government was urged to make ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax free. Raje said in a tweet that the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ based on the past situations and true events of Jammu and Kashmir has been made tax free in many states including Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat. He said, ‘I request the state government to make this film tax free in Rajasthan also.’

Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir following the systematic killings of members of the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists. it stars Anupam KherDarshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi among others.

Some other states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana have also exempted the film from entertainment tax.
