Temple management committee chairman Mohanram Sulli told TOI that as part of the Phase III development works to be undertaken at a cost of Rs 300 crore, the blueprint of the masterplan includes the construction of four Ashlesha Mandapas, accommodating around 500 devotees. has the ability to. Around 250 ‘Ashlesha Bali’ services are finalized at a time in a mandapa (hall). At present, an average of about 1,000 to 1,300 services are served in a day, in four batches of 250 services each. Once the mandapas with a separate section for ‘sankalpa’ are ready, the temple will be able to conduct 1,000 services in four batches in a single hall. He said the work is expected to be completed in the next two years.
Due to the pandemic, all services in the temple have been temporarily stopped, yet people come in large numbers for darshan. Due to restrictions, the average number of 25,000 devotees visiting the temple has come down to 2,000-3,000 on weekdays. Mohanram said that the online booking of Sarp Sanskar Puja has been completed for the next two months.
Under the third phase of the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Mandir master plan, new service counters, guest houses, ‘Hannu Kayi’ shops and silver offerings, information centres, museums and other infrastructure will be developed on Car Street. Following the traditional architecture, a three-storey Dashoh Bhawan (dining hall) with a seating capacity of 3,000 people will be built. An auditorium will be built near Subrahmanya at Injadi with a seating capacity of 1,000 people and other facilities like parking. He said a new power station would be set up specifically for the temple and a bathing place would also be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore.
Minister S Angara has expressed confidence of getting cabinet approval for the Rs 300 crore master plan. “The work will start as soon as the cabinet nod is received. Minister Sasikala Jole is expected to hold a meeting at the temple soon, after which we will seek cabinet approval.
