Ranchi: 36-year-old woman from Jamshedpur dies mucositis Feather Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi (RIMS) on Wednesday.
RIMS Public Relations Officer Dr DK Sinha said that the patient was admitted to the dengue ward of the hospital on December 21.
“However, his condition deteriorated and he was shifted to the trauma center in the evening. Doctors tried to revive him, but he died at around 12:20 am on Wednesday.
The woman, a resident of Block Chowk in Jamshedpur, had underlying ailments like diabetes and hypertension. Her husband Sitaram Pandey said that after complaining of headache for almost a month, she was taken to Tata Main Hospital for diagnosis, where she was tested for mucormycosis and referred to RIMS.
Doctors at RIMS said the patient’s eyes were swollen and the infection had spread to his brain.
With his death, the death toll due to mucormycosis rose to 32 in Jharkhand. The last reported deaths due to mucormycosis were reported on July 13 this year, where two patients from Garhwa succumbed to the disease. So far, mucormycosis has been detected in more than 170 patients in Jharkhand.
