That Season 2 review: Aditi Pohankar’s role is always at a knife’s edge, so is Imtiaz Ali’s series

Netflix The web series She, now in its second season, has a story that is unlike anything Imtiaz Ali has created before. Mumbai’s dark streets, gangsters and undercover cops are not exactly what we expect from the Jab We Met filmmaker. Nonetheless, She’s first season stunned and surprised everyone with its abundance of sex and violence, and Season 2 appears to be an attempt to escalate the drama.

In Season 1 we saw Aditi Pohankar change from a simple constable role pardeshi to a major player in the plan to nab the drug kingpin. The always-in-the-background role suddenly becomes the main heroine of a plot that requires her to lead a double life, which she initially seems completely incapable of. But where does she suddenly find the power to undertake this enormous and incredibly dangerous task? in his sexuality. Told by her husband on her wedding night that she is ‘a man’ in bed without warmth, when Bhumika realizes her sexual prowess, she becomes invincible.

It is this power that she uses to seduce a dangerous person like the protagonist (Kishore Kumar ji) in the second season. He’ll be fooled so easily, it seems so disjointed, and it’s a flaw the writer tries to hide by keeping the audience guessing at the true intentions of the role.

Living a double life, she struggles to decide who she should choose – should she be the cop, and arrest the protagonist, or allow herself to be absorbed into the hero’s world? Bhumi wants the hero’s power, but is she ready to kill the man inside her to get it? Will his hunger for power make everything go away? She forgets the difference between right and wrong, until the matter becomes too personal for her. His moral dilemma is compounded when the people who love him are put at stake.

Aditi Pohankar as Bhumika has always been convincing, she has taken on the responsibility of a brave role that can go horribly wrong if not done right. She is the biggest asset of ‘She’. Vishwas Kini as Fernandez fades a bit in Season 2 as Kishore Kumar ji appears more impressive as the protagonist. His interactions with Bhumi are some of the most interesting scenes of the show.

In a scene from episode 6, Aditi tells the protagonist that she is constantly on a knife edge, playing for the hero’s team, while wearing a mask in front of the police. The series also maintains a similar balance. Each episode raises many questions, leaving the audience asking for more. While Imtiaz Ali manages to maintain the suspense, the series completely swings between thriller and emotional drama. The main character’s portrayal of internal turmoil, his desperation for recognition, for someone who matters, often takes center stage while the men and their games fade into the background. She is one of the most daring endeavors in OTT projects that give women a chance to lead.
