Thane Water Cut: The areas that will be affected due to the disruption are Mumbra, Kalwa, Majiwada, Manpada and parts of Wagle estate.

In the wake of urgent maintenance work of the Barvi Gravity channel from Katai Naka to the Sheel Tank, the civic body announced a water cut in many parts of Thane on Thursday, April 18.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), citing the pending works to be conducted, announced that the area under their jurisdiction receiving water from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will witness a disruption in water supply on April 18 and 19.

In an official statement, the TMC informed that the water cut has been scheduled for 24 hours from April 18 midnight to April 19 midnight.

The areas that will be affected due to the disruption are Mumbra, Kalwa, Majiwada, Manpada and parts of Wagle estate. The residents of these affected areas have also been informed to expect low water pressure for the next one or two days till the water supply is resumed after the maintenance work.

In its statement, the TMC also stated, “On behalf of the Thane Municipal Corporation, citizens are being appealed to cooperate with the agency by using water sparingly during the said reduction period.”

List of Affected Areas

The affected areas which will witness a complete water shutdown for 24 hours include Diva, Mumbra (excluding part of Ward No. 26 and 31), Kalwa Ward Committee under Thane Municipal Corporation, Rupadevi Pada, Kisannagar No 2, Nehrunagar and Kolshet Khalcha Village under Manpada ward. This means that the residents of these areas will need to store sufficient water for cooperation during the maintenance work.

Repeated Water Cuts and Concerns

The recent water cut comes just a few months after the Thane Municipal Corporation declared a 24-hour water cut earlier this year on January 19 and 20. For the inconvenience caused, the civic body cited some urgent repair works followed by the installation of motor control panels at the Temghar water treatment centre.

The water cut in January was following another similar disruption in December last year which saw the residents of areas like Ghodbunder Road, Patlipada, Pawar Nagar, Kothari Compound, Azad Nagar, Dongripada, Waghbil and Saket among others facing concerns due to the same.
