Thane: An oil tanker collided with a road divider in Maharashtra on Thursday, causing a major accident. transportation at a juncture of busyness Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway and other major roads on the outskirts of Thane city, officials said.
He said that there was no report of any casualty.
The tanker going from Gujarat to Shilphata in Thane met with an accident on the main road of the city. Ghodbunder Road Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said that around 1.30 am, after which the furnace oil leaked from the vehicle on both sides of the road.
This led to heavy traffic jams on both sides of Ghodbunder Road and at the major junction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, an official of the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate’s control room said.
“The commuters faced a tough time due to the terrible traffic jam on the main roads,” the official said.
Kadam said that after being alerted, local fire brigade personnel, police and RDMC personnel reached the spot where they sprinkled water and put sand to clean the oil.
But, vehicular movement is still badly affected, officials said.
“No one was injured,” Kadam said. He said that efforts are on to smooth the traffic on the roads.
