BJP and SP together contested maximum number of Brahmins and Thakurs. There were 177 Brahmins and 122 Thakurs in the fray from both the parties, but in terms of contesting and winning the elections, the Thakurs overtook the Brahmins. Before that, know that we will not talk about 86 reserved seats in UP here because the decision there on the basis of caste is already fixed. In 84 seats, only SC and 2 seats will become ST MLAs. Muslims cannot be talked about because BJP did not give ticket to any Muslim. SP fielded 63 out of which 34 won. However, Hamza Mian, a Muslim who had contested the elections from the BJP alliance, also lost.

BJP and SP together contested 314 OBCs and 252 upper castes. But in the case of candidates contesting and winning by fighting, the upper castes won. 50% of those standing won the election while only 47% of OBC candidates became MLAs.

BJP had given tickets to 173 and SP to 79 upper castes. Talking about OBCs, BJP had given tickets to 143 OBC candidates and SP 171 OBC candidates.
