Anantnag: An unidentified terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter between terrorists and government forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday evening.
“One terrorist has been killed and another is believed to be hiding at the encounter site,” a police officer told Kashmir Reader.
Encounter is going on in Chansar village of Chawalgam area of Kulgam district, where the operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
“The terrorists fired indiscriminately in an attempt to escape as the cordon was being laid,” said the police officer, who retaliated and in this initial encounter one terrorist was killed.
He said that other terrorists are hiding in a residential house and contact has been established with them.
“We believe that at least one more terrorist is hiding at the encounter site,” the police officer said.
Lights have been put up in the area as government forces have cordoned off the entire area.
Local sources said that intermittent firing was taking place in the area. However, the operation can be postponed for the night.
