A woman wearing a burqa was caught on CCTV footage hurling petrol bombs at a security bunker in Sopore on Tuesday evening. There were no casualties in the incident and she managed to escape.

The woman was captured on CCTV installed at various places in the Valley and was later identified when the police spoke to various sources spread across the apple city of Sopore as well as in Handwara district.

Akhtar, 38, has two cases registered against him, one for pasting posters of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group in Handwara in north Kashmir in 2021.

Terrorist groups facing the heat of security forces are now engaging women on the ground to carry out their nefarious designs, including throwing grenades or working as couriers, officials said.

Akhtar, who passed class 10 from Hanafia School, was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2021. He is out on bail since December last year. Several raids were conducted and Sopore police was working actively to nab him.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar told PTI that she was working as an over ground worker of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“We have been seeing women being employed by the terrorist group of late. Last year, two burqa-clad women assisted terrorists in an attack on a BJP worker’s residential guard on the outskirts of Srinagar city in Nowgam, in which we saw a policeman. Lost.
