Surat: With the number of positive cases touching a new high on Tuesday, senior health officials warned that if the sharp rise remained unchecked, the situation could get out of hand.
With 3,563 positive cases in the city on Tuesday, the total hospitalizations stand at 401, which is around 11%.
The hospitalization rate, which is fresh admissions against new cases reported daily, currently stands at around three per cent. At this rate, if the daily positive cases in the city touch 10,000, 300 patients would need to be hospitalized daily.
“We are at a critical juncture and people should understand the gravity of the situation. If cases continue to rise at this rate, we will soon cross 10,000 cases per day and hospitalizations per day will also increase,” said Deputy Commissioner Health AK Naik, Surat Municipal Corporation,
“Estimated 300 daily admissions, all hospital beds in the city will be occupied within a week,” Naik said.
