Porto’s Brazilian striker Avenilson scored twice and was knocked out in the first half as they beat Benfica 3–0 to reach the Portuguese Cup quarter-finals. Avenilsson scored in the first minute, scoring a loose ball inside the field and firing goalkeeper Helton Leight.

Vitinha received the second six minutes later with a clever shot from a corner and Avenilsson struck again to finish off a counter-attack and extended Porto’s lead to half an hour into the game.

But the 22-year-old got a second yellow card after catching Joo Mario in the face with his hand just before halftime.

The hosts managed to maintain their comfortable lead and eased into victory to finish last season’s runner-up, who sent Nicolas Otamendi late for a foul on Luis Diaz.
