Telegram CEO says even Apple, Google to be ‘guilty’ for Pegasus hack – Times of India

The Pegasus hacking scandal has rocked the tech world targeting several high-profile names. Phones of politicians, journalists, activists have been targeted through Israeli company NSOMonitoring software Pegasus. Since phones are the center of hacking, Apple And Google It’s going to take too much heat to not make enough secure software. The two tech giants training their guns are none other than the CEOs Wire.
Pavel Durov, the founder of the instant messaging app, said that both Google and Apple have left open backdoors in their systems for such attacks to happen. In a post on Telegram’s Durov channel, he said, “According to Snowden’s disclosures from 2013, both Apple and Google are part of a global surveillance program, which means these companies need to know, among other things, past changes in their mobile operating systems.” Doors have to be implemented.. These backdoors, usually disguised as security bugs, allow US agencies to access information on any smartphone in the world.
He further explained, “The problem with such backdoors is that they are never exclusive to just one party. They can be exploited by anyone. So if a US security agency can hack an iOS or Android phone , so any other organization that uncovers these backdoors can do the same.” According to Durov, what NSO did to Pegasus.
Durov said that for some time he has been asking governments to take action against Apple and Google. “That’s why I’m calling on the governments of the world to start working against the Apple-Google monopoly in the smartphone market and forcing them to open up their closed ecosystem and allow more competition.”
This is not the first time Durov has come out and spoken out against Apple. In May, when it was pointed out that Apple had different ‘rules’ for China, Durov said that “the owner is a iPhone Makes you a digital slave of Apple – You’re only allowed to use apps that Apple lets you install through its App Store, and you can only use Apple’s iCloud to back up your data ”
