Telangana High Court upheld SS Rajamouli’s RRR. Public interest litigation seeking stay order against

The Telangana High Court has dismissed a petition by SS Rajamouli seeking a stay order against RRR, which is scheduled to hit the theaters in less than 10 days. RRR is based on the lives of two fictional Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. These roles are played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR respectively in the film.

Alluri Soumya, a student from Andhra Pradesh, had filed a PIL in January this year alleging that the film distorts historical facts and demanded that it should not be issued a censor certificate. Saumya also sought a stay order on RRR, claiming that the film is destroying the history of two freedom fighters.

The matter was heard in the Telangana High Court, which ruled in favor of RRR. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra and Justice Abhinand Kumar dismissed the petition after hearing the arguments of both the parties.

The court said that the film did not tarnish the reputation of the freedom fighters as claimed by Soumya. Further, the court also noted that the Censor Board had also cleared the film and granted it a censorship certificate.

Apart from Soumya, RRR had also criticized others who claimed that it has distorted historical facts. Veerabhadra Rao, national president of Alluri Sita Rama Raju Youth Association, had also objected to the film. He said that the filmmakers distorted facts for commercial gain.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Rajamouli never claimed that RRR is based on true events. He also clarified that it was rather a fictional work based on true characters.

The film, starring Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, was earlier scheduled to release on January 7, but was postponed due to the rising COVID-19 cases. Now this film of 400 crores will knock in theaters on 25 March.
