HYDERABAD: The Telangana Congress members will hold dharnas in all the assembly constituencies and district headquarters in the state on August 5 in protest against the rising prices and levy of GST on essential commodities, petrol, diesel, LPG gas, rising unemployment, agnipath scheme among other issues.
Telangana Congress working president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre has failed to keep inflation under check and has not been able to manage the economy of the country properly.
The Congress cadres will expose the failures of the Modi-government throughout the country including Telangana by organising protest programmes on August 5. Though crops in lakhs of acres have been damaged due to torrential rains and floods, both the central and state governments have so far not announced any compensation to the farmers. Several people have died but the two governments have not announced any relief package, he alleged.
Congress legislature party leader Bhatti Vikramarka demanded that the state government immediately take up the assessment of crop damage and announce a financial package to the farmers, and those who lost their properties.
In a separate development, Congress MLA Podem Veeraiah-led delegation met Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday and urged her to use her good offices and ensure that the five villages of Bhadrachalam which were merged with Andhra Pradesh, are given back to Telangana state.
