Telangana Congress chief, other leaders placed under ‘house arrest’

Police said Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Congress MP A Revanth Reddy and several other senior party leaders have been put under “house arrest” at various places here. Revanth Reddy, Congress Lok Sabha member from Malkajgiri, had alleged irregularities worth Rs 1,000 crore in the e-auction of land at Kokapet by the Telangana government last week there.

Revanth Reddy, in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, said he was “prevented” from attending Parliament which violates parliamentary privileges during the progress of the session. According to him, he wanted to raise the issue in Parliament against the sale of the government. “Land at prices thrown by the state government to their relatives and office-bearers of the TRS ruling party”.

“Despite knowing the fact, that I have to attend the Parliament session scheduled from today and make repeated requests to the concerned authorities, at the instance of Chief Minister (Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao), Chief Secretary Telangana State Police, DGP has obstructed the discharge of my duties as an MP to appear in Parliament and to address the concerns of the people,” Revanth Reddy said in the letter.

The TPCC chief also tweeted: “Fearing that I will raise the Kokapet land sale scam in Parliament, police stopped me from attending Parliament session at the behest of CM and DGP. This is a violation of my parliamentary privileges as an MP, no matter what the truth @inctelangana will bring out.” However, the ruling TRS had rejected the allegations leveled by Revanth Reddy and said the process was transparent .
